4. “The protected hedgerows” light blue route

This trail stretches to the north-east of the capital Novi di Modena and offers the most characteristic nature out of the cycle path project. “The protected hedgerows” are called Coccapana and Resega, named after the places they come from. These hedgerows are protected under regional law and listed as European Community SPA sites due to their historical and natural importance: in fact, they are the last remaining examples of the forests that once characterised the Po Valley. These hedgerows are the perfect natural shelter for various types of amphibians, birds and mammals and this makes them a great place for local schools and university researchers to visit and study.
